Conservatories by Harp

Conservatory installations by HarpFrom the sublime to the simple, we can make your conservatory dream become a reality. From a simple lean-to design, to a stunning Victorian classic, the choice is yours.

Conservatories are becoming an increasingly popular choice for homeowners who want to add some extra living space to their home.

As a naturally lit extension to your home, conservatories can offer a welcome retreat with resplendent views of your garden and the great outdoors, and, unlike windows and doors, a professionally installed, quality conservatory will add real salient value to your home. We offer a full design and planning service for all our conservatories.

Now you can have a wider choice like never before ...

The conservatories of today are a far cry from the original glass houses which were built primarily to protect exotic plant life. Our conservatories, with their high insulation properties throughout, are just as likely to be used in mid winter as in the height of summer.

Conservatory guide

Generally the space you have available will determine where your conservatory will sit on the side of your home. If you're lucky enough to be able to choose the exact position of the building, then consider the following facts:

South facing
Pros: The warmth of the conservatory will be appreciated by people and plants. Cheaper to heat during the winter months. Cons: Can get very stuffy and hot during summer months. Sufficient ventilation and blinds can help to keep the temperature bearable, and you could also consider air conditioning, however it's worth remembering that the coolant glass we use in our conservatories is capable of maintaining temperatures that are 10-15°C cooler in the summer. It also protects furniture and fabric from the sun's UV and infrared radiation.

East facing
Pros: An ideal breakfast room as it will make the most of the morning sun. Out of the direct sunlight during the day, it shouldn't become too stuffy during the summer. Cons: Will require adequate heating during the winter months.

West facing
Pros: Fairly well lit at the start of the day and benefits from the warmth of the sun in the afternoons and evenings. Perfect for entertaining and dinner parties or simply somewhere to relax at the end of a busy day. Cons: Could get stuffy in the light sunny evenings during summer. Sufficient ventilation and blinds should help keep the temperature bearable. Coolant smart glass will make a huge difference here.

North facing
Pros: Whilst this may not be the most popular site choice, a north facing conservatory is a wonderful retreat during spring and summer months. You don't necessarily need blinds, so you can dine out under the stars on those "not so warm" summer evenings. Cons: Will require adequate heating during the winter.

Have you considered the possibility of having a conservatory added to your kitchen, creating a stylish, bright and airy dining room?

When choosing the design of your conservatory, ensure that it is ideally suited to match the style of your property. A well designed conservatory should always complement and enhance the existing architecture. An important consideration is that the building materials, in particular the bricks, match with the existing masonry in both style and colour.

Roofing options

Glass or polycarbonate sheets are generally used to roof a conservatory. The advantage of polycarbonate sheets over glass is that it's a more cost effective roofing option, and its obscurity provides privacy if you are overlooked. Quite frankly however, most people tend to prefer the clarity and look of glass. Technical advances in the manufacture of glass now mean a much wider choice is available to you for your conservatory roof today.

NOW YOU CAN FEEL THE DIFFERENCE BUT NOT SEE IT!
